The Difference Between Copy Editing and Proofreading

Sometimes people use copy editing and proofreading interchangeably, but there is a difference. Most people want copy editing. Proofreading is the final step in the editing process, though some only proofread. To ensure your copy has no mistakes, we combine both steps.

Copy Editing

A copy editor focuses on the technical aspects of your copy, including:

• The consistency of your writing style.
• Missing words.
• Vague or inaccurate statements.

Proofreading

Once a piece goes through copy editing, it also goes through a proofreading stage. Most editors charge two different fees for these processes.
